Recklessly by A J Sand--a Rabt VBTour--review/giveaway

 Synopsis:

Mature New Adult - Contemporary Romance
Date Published: 8/28/2013

Surfing and sex. This is Wes Elliott's life. And it's just the way he likes it.   `After seeing his parents stay in a loveless marriage his entire life, and burying away a heartbreak from his past, he knows where romance is best left: crappy chick movies. He'd rather lust and eventually leave, and that's exactly what the plan was when he met Lana Langston.
Except…turns out she’s only in it for the thrills, too. She's always only in it for the thrills: life in the literal fast lane on her motorcycle, and the hot nights in forbidden places without the awkward talks in the mornings after. She's Wes Elliott in way tighter jeans.
So, this should be perfect, right?
But the more time Wes spends with her, the more he wants the nights to turn into mornings.
And maybe even longer. Suddenly, it isn't so perfect for him anymore. And the things he thought were buried are digging themselves up.
Now Wes is in a lot of trouble.
He’s falling in love with the one girl who might be a bigger risk than even a guy who gets barreled by the most dangerous waves in the world is willing to take on.
Can Wes and Lana figure out a way to make it work? Or is he headed for something far more reckless?
Due to the sexual content, language and violence, this work is not recommended for readers under 18.

About the Author :

From My Perspective:

First of all, let me emphatically state, this is definitely a book geared toward a mature audience.   There is a lot of sexually explicit content and a lot of language.

The storyline was interesting.   Young man is famous in his surfing career.   He is a womanizer, with his own moral code.   He makes sure all his women know that this is recreational sex when they involve themselves with him,    So, he meets our free spirit girl, the female version of himself.   They have a grand time coming together for sexual gratification.....until, someone or both of them start to fall in love and wants to take their relationship to the next level.    But that is a scary thing...a much too scary thing!

It was definitely a Hot romantic read and very emotional with a lot of wavering back and forth between the characters.   Wes and Lana were wildly passionate in their mutual attraction, but it seemed like there was a major lack of trust and therefore, a huge communications breakdown.  I ached for the characters to get their acts together and it took a great long while for them to do just that.

I found the ending a bit out of character for both Wes and Lana, and at the same time, exactly what you wanted for an ending.

Due to the fact, I am not a big fan of sexually explicit stories I am rating this read a 3.5 winks.

The Space In Between by

Good Morning Peeps!   I am a bit tardy with this review as I have been ill and could not catch up on my reading while under the weather, but I have an honest to god treat for you today.    We will begin with the synopsis of this debut contemporary romance from  Brittany C Cherry and after I fill you in with the documented information, we'll look at my perspective.

Synopsis:

New Adult Contemporary
Date Published: 9/17/2013

She’s scarred by her past.
ANDREA EVANS is traumatized and guilt-ridden by the death of her fiancĂ©e. Tired of the gossiping small town, she travels to New York City to pursue her dream of dance. When her dreams don’t instantly come to fruition, she ends up working at a strip club with her best friend.
He’s uncertain of his future.
COOPER DAVIDSON is a famous photographer and reality television star trying to flee from his own life filled with paparazzi, mental health clinics, and a cheating wife who is pregnant.
When Andrea and Cooper’s paths cross, they realize how damaged and in need of escapism they both are. The two create an arrangement to explore the space in between chaos and order with one another. The rules are simple—no emotional connections, no talking about the past, no speaking of the future, and when one finds order, the other walks away.
All is well until Cooper falls in love with Andrea. Will Andrea open up and let someone else into her closed off heart? Can Cooper stop the tabloids and his crazed wife from exposing his past and painting Andrea as a prostitute to the world before her life spirals back down to the land of chaos?

Meet Brittany C Cherry:

The Space In Between is her debut novel and she looks forward to the world being able to read it!  Other hobbies that she loves to take part in are writing screenplays, acting, and dancing—poorly of course.

From My Perspective:

I loved this book.  I didn't think I would, but I was treated to a surprise.   I could easily relate to Andrea's broken-ness.   I loved her friend Ladasha and I believe I fell just as much in love with Cooper Davidson as any reader could.    These characters and the surrounding cast of characters became very real to me in the writing of Ms Cherry.   So character development= strong and true.   Storyline was strong, consistent, and the reading was fluent and smooth.  Actually, Brittany had a surprise or two for the reader as she tied her characters together through various sub characters.   A-ha moments and I liked that.

The conflict was set up quite believably and as in most cases, time is the best healer!  There is so much to be said for this great love story, but I am fearful of giving away too much.   Ms Cherry allowed her characters to unfold their story, their drama and their brokenness.   True friendships were forged as were truly romantic relationships.   I thought Ms Cherry did an excellent job of creating a very satisfying, romantic read which included lots of wisdom and humor as well.

I would definitely recommend this read to those who enjoy romance, pure and simple.  I rate this book a 5 WINK read and would encourage Ms Cherry to continue on, as this  was a debut novel and she has what it takes to hold a reader's interest and heart...a lovely story, The Space In Between.

Haven't we all been there, in between chaos and order at some point in our lives?   Now for those of you who would like to participate, Brittany has added a giveaway so follow the Rafflecopter below:

Riverstar by Tess Thompson---A Review

Here it is Peeps, the latest from Tess Thompson.....Riverstar.   What a phenomenal author!   Once again we lend ourselves to the fine misfits of River Valley, Oregon.  If you are good savory folks, you'll be welcomed into the fold there.

This was the story of Bella and the film crew she works for, bringing a whole movie cast and crew to River Valley to film a feel good movie.   But there's not too much feel good once the movie crew gets into town and underway.   An ugly murder takes place and the cops from out of town make short order of trying to pin it on Ben Fleck, who is Bella's heart throb.  It is a well paced story and full of mystery and sleuthing as Bella teams up with her brother's friend, Peter, to find the real killer.

The story was told intelligently, plotted out respectably and even had a surprise twist or two in this mysterious read which brought the whole town together once again to protect their own.  Bella's passionate lovelife is finally brought peace and a chance for happily ever after in this small town of River Valley.

I rated this 5 WINKS!

Outsystem by M D Cooper/ REVIEW

I am caught up with everything I was to read and review in December 2012 and January 2013!   Yay for me!   It took a little over 6 months to do it, but I am now current with the exception of some upcoming indie author requests!

OK and even though I say that, I had planned to post this review on the third and here I am certainly late again.    Argh!!

Movin right along, today's post is for MD Moody's sci - fi action/adventure, Outsystem.

Synopsis:

Someone is out to stop the GSS Intrepid, an interstellar colony ship, from being completed on schedule and beginning its journey to 82 Eridani. When anti-colonial activist groups are suspected, Major Tanis Richards, an officer in the field of military intelligence and counterinsurgency, is brought onboard to hunt them down.

A public disgrace Tanis suffered at the hands of the military has motivated her to leave Sol and start a new life elsewhere. She soon discerns that more than simple activist groups are arrayed against the ship and its crew. There are corporations and governments that have a vested interest in ensuring that the Intrepid never leaves the Sol system.

Tanis tightens security and fights political red tape while running up against assassins and mercenaries sent to the stop her and the Intrepid at every turn. The new friends and relationships she forges strengthen her resolve to protect the ship and keep its crew and colonists safe as they endeavor to head outsystem.

Author Info:  Michael Cooper has been writing since the day he closed Return of the King and wanted more. He's written a lot of fantasy that he never tried to get published, but one day decided to try his hand at science fiction, of which he has published one book (Outsystem) and is working on the sequel, A Path in the Darkness.
Michael is a software engineer at a company which builds sites and services around the open-source CMS named Drupal and enjoys the creativity involved in building web applications.
When not writing stories or code Michael is spending time with his wife and daughter, or doing carpentry--a hobby which he has been growing over the years.
His other interests include astronomy, cars and racing, blacksmithing, movies, and just about any creative work one can do.

From My Perspective:

First of all, I am not much of a Sci-Fi follower.   But on occasion, I like to broaden my horizons.   No pun intended with this being way out in space.   And I like when a different genre than I am accustomed to, actually captures my attention and holds me hostage to get to the end.    Cooper's characters are very strong, especially Tanis Richards and her AI, Angela.   This pairing knows no fear and they are quite capable of taking care of themselves.  Tanis is all about succeeding where others may fall short.  Thus the possibility of a romance blooming has her confused and torn.     There is all kinds of action in this effort to find who is the saboteur;  is it one or many?    Or is it one all powerful and filthy rich traitor with his own game plan.

She had formed a team that far exceeds her needs in trustworthiness and success.  Eventually, you arrive at a satisfactory ending.....until, wait../.no there's a cliffhanger ending, setting you up for, yes, that's right, book two.

Well my mind thought about this book for days after reading it and I had many questions for my sci-fi guy, I married 35 years ago.   He could explain to me, the words that were definitely sci-fi and some of the theories put forth and my own questions about what if?    Sometimes handy to have a guy like that around.

I rated this 5 Winks!    I did lose sleep to see it through and I felt it was worth my beauty sleep.    So if you are in to Sci-Fi, grab this read and maybe we'll meet again in book two!

What I Read in AUGUST

Happy Labor Day WeekEnd!  To all who have ever worked and/or continue to do so, thank you for contributing to our fair country's economy!!   I no longer am included in that elite group, but I try to do my part with "purchase power", in other words spending my money on prudent book purchases, crafty investments and  investments in the grand kids.    Oh yes and expensive car repairs are one of my main ventures these days!   Ta Da!

OK, let's review what I read this month.   It was a fabulous reading month let me say.
I included romance, sci-fi, haunting mystery thrillers, christmas themes and Christmas-Christian genres.

Love Me If You Dare and Home to Whiskey Creek were the romance reads which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Mantinicus and Reese's Leap were my mystery thrillers and I found them very entertaining.   Mantinicus had such a shocking surprise ending and left my head spinning!   Iwas looking for the surprise ending in Reese's leap and I think that expectation let me down a little, but it was a daunting read, nonetheless.

And then there was Treasure Among the Shadows, also quite the mystery-thriller, with a touch of romance.  Greed and adventure and some sad losses for misplaced values.

My almost first adventure into Sci-Fi and I liked it!!   Ok, maybe it was my second or third venture this way.  My review will be posted on September third for this action packed adventure.  I understand there will be many m,ore adventures for Tanis Richards and who knows, we may try to keep up with her!

Now these are Christmas reads, by the reigning queen of Christmas tells.   I love her warm telling of Christmas holidays and romance!   I was not disappointed with either book!

And last, I had wanted to read The Christmas Star for quite some time and so glad I was able to get to it this month.   Ace tells a story of a teen age boy, disillusioned by Christmas and past events.   I learned a lot about the events and history of Christmas which led to the traditions we observe today and about a fathers love for his son and the values he taught his son, even though he was not there to polish the boys' education in the flesh.   This was truly an awesome read for me even though for some, I realize the included scripture  may not be endearing.

Like I say, I had a great month reading and enjoying the last throes of summer.   I even met my cousin's daughter from Arizona and her hubby.   That was the frosting to August!    We also celebrated birthdays and our 35th anniversary.   Yep, no turning back at this point!

Have a wonderful September Peeps!   Keep your eyes healthy and spend some free time with a good book!   You won't regret it!
