Masquerade by Nicole Flockton/ SupaGurl VBTours

Welcome my Peeps!   This morning we are joined (Virtually) by Nicole Flockton, the author of Masquerade!     Welcome Nicole!!   (Wild audience applause).    Thanks so much for joining us this morning.
Let's jump in with our questions:

How long have you been writing?
I started writing after my daughter was born in 2002, it was more a bit of fun but the more I did it the more I enjoyed it. I started to write seriously and work on my craft from 2006.

What Authors have inspired you?
I can't say one author inspired me. But there was a firefighter trilogy written by Kathryn Shay that had me living and breathing with the characters and I started to think, maybe one day I could give someone this same feeling.

If you could spend an afternoon with any one author, who would it be? And why?
Probably Sherrilyn Kenyon. She gave an amazing talk at RWA New York in 2011. To be able to talk one on one about her experience and her determination to keep going when all seemed lost.

Do you blog? Blogspot addy?
Yes I’ve had a blog since 2005. It was initially on blogspot, but when I updated my website my web designer incorporate my old blog with my website.  Address is www.nicoleflockton.com/blog

What is the biggest reward you have received since being published?
I think the biggest thing for me was when I went to Anaheim this year, I caught up with a lot of Australian authors, I’m an Aussie who’s been in Houston Tx for three years. Anyway, they were all so happy to see me and so happy that I sold. Having Rita finalists and multi-published authors saying those things to me, was unbelievable.

Also when I told a neighbor I was going to a writers conference she asked me if I was an author. I got a thrill to say, “Why yes I am. I am an author.” Then hearing her say how excited she was to say she knew an author.

What was the biggest surprise that came with being published?
I still have a heap to learn. With being published you have to learn about promotion about getting out there. When I meet people I have to remember to say I’m an author and plug my book.

What has been the biggest hardship in getting published?
I can’t say I’ve experienced any hardship as yet, as this is my debut release, but I know I’m going to have to tough it out when there’s a bad review.  I have to remember not everyone has the same tastes. I realize some will love and some will not.

Status of current WIP?
About a quarter of the way through it.

What’s your favorite book and why?
I don’t have a stand out favorite as such, I have a lot. But there is a book which I’ve read about 5 times and it’s “Fortunes” by Vera Cowie. It was released back in 1986. It’s about a girl who inherits one part of her estranged father’s auction house. Not sure what it is about it, but I enjoy it every time I read it. Hmm maybe it’s time I picked it up again.

Favorite genre to read and to write?
I love to read category novels, they are my main stable of reading. I love them because they’re fast paced, short and full of emotion. There are some many fabulous authors out there. So that is what I write, contemporary stories. Some have medical settings and others are set in boardrooms with yummy Alpha males.

A few just for fun questions,Salty or Sweet?
Sweet definitely.

Winter or Summer?
Probably winter as you can snuggle up with your favorite person and keep warm.

Bowling or baseball as a participant?
Bowling, but only if the gutter guards are up!  I’m not the most athletic person.

Your most unhealthy snack?
Chocolate

5 most admired people to attend dinner with?
Lance Armstrong, Oprah Winfrey, Princess Diana, Neil Armstrong, Betty White

Are you a cup half full or half empty person?
Half full

Background noise or silence when writing?
Background noise.

Thanks for being with us today Nicole.   We wish you every success with your writing career !  Nicole waves and the live audience is again on their feet and clapping wildly!

blurb:

After being humiliated by her fiancée, Sophie Franklyn has decided that getting involved with work colleagues and men in general isn’t for her. Now her focus is going to be on her career and her recent promotion. That is until at a New Year’s eve masquerade ball, she meets a man that tempts her to question her choices.

Alex Scavoni is extremely dedicated to his job, so dedicated that his first marriage crumbled under the pressure of his dedication. Now he’s happily single, with a new job he is excited to start. When he meets a masked Sophie at the ball, she fires desires in him he thought long dead. He spends a wonderful night with her, but wakes up alone.

The next time the two meet, it’s in the high pressure world of Emergency Room medicine where they must work side by side. While they deal with the stresses of the Emergency ward, they endeavour to keep their feelings for each other on a professional nature. When the desire that pushed them together that one night flares to life again, can they ignore them or will their one night together have consequences neither of them planned on?

My Review:

I loved this story, although it was a short steamy read at 109 pages.  But what a good 109 pages they were.  Alex Scavoni could not have been any hotter! Talk Yum...even the reader could desire him as all the female characters desired to be "seen" by his dark eyes.  Sophie Franklyn, what a lucky character to be found so desirable by the Italian doc!   She tries to keep it professional, but the two are truly drawn to one another and when there is a life threatening situation in the ER....all bets are off and all secrets die there.   The characters in this read are done exceptionally well, especially the nosy best friend and the weasel of a former boyfriend.

Nicole writes a fluent story, fast paced but a lot happens in just a few pages!   And for any woman who reads Masquerade, it is like a fairy tale become real!   I empathized with the characters and their hopes and desires .   If you like a good romance, I think you'll love the read too!
